Ram Nath Kovind was born on 1st October 1945. He is an Indian politician serving as the 14th President of India since July 2017. Educational Back Ground

Kovind completed his schooling in Kanpur and obtained degrees of B.Com and LLB from Kanpur University. IN 1971, he worked as an Advocate in Bar Council of New Delhi.  He also worked as a lawyer in Supreme Court and Delhi High Court for 16 years until 1993.

Parliamentary and Public Life

He was elected as a member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in April 1994. Shri Kovind also served as a Member of the Board of Management of Dr B. R. Ambedkar University, Lucknow and Member of the Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.

President of India – Salary & Allowances

The President of India receives Rs 5 lakhs per month which is non-taxable. Until 2017, the President used to get Rs 1.50 lakh per month which is less than Cabinet Ministers of the Country. In 217, it has increased to Rs 5 lakh per month.

In addition to the salary, the President gets other allowances such as Free Medical, Housing and Treatment Facilities, Food, etc.

Government of India spends over 22.5 million rupees annually on other expenses like Housing, Food, staff, hosting of guests, etc. He gets a car ” Mercedes Benz S600 (W221) Pullman Guard “. The spouse of President will also get secretarial assistance of Rs 30,000 per month.  Free Medical Facilities and Accommodation are also provided.

Previous Income of Former Presidents 

Our First President of India, Rajendra Prasad’s then salary was Rs 10,000 per month + allowances. He used to take only 50% of the salary, saying that the amount was enough and efficient for his family and himself.
